Vigneto

We had dinner at Vigneto the other night.  It’s in the former Spoons space next to Mitchell Books in Covington Plaza.  It was a bit disappointing.   Vigneto is run by Lisa Williams and Chuck Kaiser, formerly of Joseph Decuis, so we had high expectations on our visit.

The space is nicely decorated, but if you sit next to the windows wear a jacket, the blowers move a lot a air.

The waiter didn’t seem familar with the menu at all, but in all fairness, the menu was a bit confusing.  For example, at the end of the meal the dessert wine list mentioned under the “Wines by the glass” section an ice wine.  I thought that would be nice, so I ordered one.  A bit later the waiter came back and said that was a half-bottle, not a glass.  Well, then, why is it listed in the by the glass section?

The food was hit and miss.  Debbie ordered lemon and black pepper risotto for one of her plates and it was cooked until the rice formed a paste and even worse was missing its black pepper.  I had some pate that was ok, and we had a salad with pomegranate that was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten, and the polenta parmesan fries were sublime.   So pretty uneven, I expected better.  It was a Tuesday night, and the place was packed, so I’d give them the benefit of the doubt and try dinner there again some day.

On the other hand, if you’re looking for a place to have a glass of wine and a snack, it’d be great.  They mention the enoteca influence, that may be a hard sell in Fort Wayne, but that seems like what they are, more than a place for dinner.
