Deep Thoughts

While reflecting on the prime-time TV Olympic coverage I wondered…

Why do so many people like NASCAR as a spectator sport, where the cars go round and round and round in circles.

But hardly anyone (except me) enjoys distance running as a spectator sport, where the runners go round and round and round in circles.

I’m thinking it’s the likelihood of bits and pieces flying in the air and flames that makes NASCAR more of a draw. Collisions in distance running rarely include bits flying off or flames. But good question. I was thinking the same thing about rhythmic gymnastics today. People think it’s so cultured to watch ballet and it’s ballet with some difficulty added and people think it’s weird. They are both on their toes most of the time and have the same movements.

Hey, another thought. Most of us can relate to driving but hardly any of us are runners. 🙂

I like watching the runners go round and round too (and they are so amazingly fast), but not the noisy cars. There may be more of us out there than you realize.
