Tales from Skunk Hill

The View from the Mountaintop

I’ve been spending a lot of time in Churubusco lately, and I’ve had the opportunity to visit the Mountaintop several times in the last few weeks. The Mountaintop is a coffee shop, not unlike Higher Grounds or (get behind me Satan!) Starbucks.

But for downtown Churubusco it’s something special. The coffee is quite good and the baked goods are very good (is ‘very’ better than ‘quite’? I’ll let you decide.) The baristas are friendly and efficient. Can’t overemphasize the importance of efficiency when you’re needing that caffeine jolt to rejoin the human race.

Wednesday’s are half price latte days, and their tall latte with an extra shot is as good as anything you’ll get anywhere. Pair it with a chocolate chip nut cookie and you’ll emerge a better person.

My only issue with the Mountaintop is their lack of exterior lights/signage. Being an early riser I’m unsure when I pull up whether they’re open or not.

They’re added some bright signage, so as you’re approaching on 33 from the north you know they’re open and you can swing in for a delightful treat in the heart of downtown Churubusco!  Oh, but they’ve discontinued half price Wednesday’s, so don’t drive to ‘Busco to save a buck and a half on Wednesdays.
