I was surfing the Internet and listening to Rick Steves with one ear on PBS when this statement caught my ear: “In the interest of family values, new moms and dads (in Sweden) split 16 months of paid parental leave as they like.” The cost of this is shared by the state and the employer.
You suppose the “family values” political party here in the US would go for that?
I saw/heard that one, too, and had a similar thought. 🙂
Sweden’s income tax at top rate 57 percent, US 35 percent. You realy want to turn over 22 percent of your income to the well oil machine of lifetime politicans and have them decide your family values. I am surprised.
My machine is not well oiled.

Seriously though, my main point in writing that was to point out the hypocrisy of the politicians who wave the family values banner but are actually only attempting to make laws of their particular brand of morality.
