Tales from Skunk Hill

Wildflowers

You belong among the wildflowers
You belong in a boat out at sea
You belong with your love on your arm
You belong somewhere you feel free

Tom Petty, “Wildflowers”

Tom Petty’s album “Wildflowers” had just come out in 1994 and Debbie and I listened to it as we drove up to Michigan for our honeymoon. That was in November, so no wildflowers then.

Today I went over to the Crooked Lake Nature Preserve to hike their trails. It’s a two mile trail, up and down hills, and along the shore of Crooked Lake.

The wildflowers were just coming out. I saw a bald eagle, woodpeckers, and a brown thrasher. I heard Canada geese (of course), and loons and wood ducks.

The only thing that would’ve made it better would be if I’d had my love on my arm. But she had to work today.
