{"id":45,"date":"2009-08-02T16:33:29","date_gmt":"2009-08-02T21:33:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chuckzumbrun.net\/?p=45"},"modified":"2009-08-03T07:09:52","modified_gmt":"2009-08-03T12:09:52","slug":"potato-harvest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chuckzumbrun.net\/?p=45","title":{"rendered":"Potato Harvest 2009"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I harvested my potatoes today.\u00a0 It seems early, but the vines were dead so I figured it was time.\u00a0 This is the first time I&#8217;ve grown potatoes,\u00a0 I&#8217;m just feeling my way along.<\/p>\n<p>My two rows of spuds planted from some leftover seed potatoes Sam Taulbee gave me yielded around fifteen pounds and I decided to can them.\u00a0 We wouldn&#8217;t eat fifteen pounds before they&#8217;d spoil which made canning seem like the best option.\u00a0 I read about storing them in sand in your basement.\u00a0 Lugging hundreds of pounds of sand down to the basement didn&#8217;t have much appeal though.<\/p>\n<p>The fifteen pounds of potatoes turned into 8 quarts of cubed potatoes:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/chuckzumbrun.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/100_1224.jpg\" title=\"Potatoes\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/chuckzumbrun.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/100_1224.jpg\" alt=\"Potatoes\" width=\"560\" height=\"420\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>They sure look pretty.\u00a0 It&#8217;s probably economically stupid to can them.\u00a0 No doubt I spent more on canning jar lids than it would cost to buy that many potatoes.\u00a0 But the satisfaction of putting up your own food, and the pleasure I&#8217;ll get this winter when I open a jar and remember this fine August day when I canned them is, as the tv commercials say, priceless.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I harvested my potatoes today.\u00a0 It seems early, but the [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[8],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-45","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-cooking"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/chuckzumbrun.net\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/45","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/chuckzumbrun.net\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/chuckzumbrun.net\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/chuckzumbrun.net\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/chuckzumbrun.net\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=45"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/chuckzumbrun.net\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/45\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/chuckzumbrun.net\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=45"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/chuckzumbrun.net\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=45"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/chuckzumbrun.net\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=45"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
