Dragonflies

When I was walking back to the wheat field earlier this week I noticed there dragonflies perched on the topmost leaves of the corn.

The field stretches for a quarter of a mile along the lane back to the wheat field. There were thousands and thousands of dragonflies all along the lane perched on the corn.

I don’t know what they were doing there. The corn is just starting to pollinate, do they collect pollen? I don’t think they were hurting the corn.

This is why I’m opposed to routine, preventive broadcasting of insecticides. If we had sprayed this field with an insecticide we would have surely wiped out these dragonflies as well as any harmful insects we may have been after.

It was beautiful to see all those dragonflies perched on the corn.

Do there tend to be more mosquitoes around corn fields? They could be hunting mosquitoes.

That could be, the mosquitoes have been ferocious lately.

I agree with not indiscriminately killing all types of insects.
